Gurama Yani U Inc. (GYU), were at a crossroads in their organisation and sought to understand what they were missing in terms of operational efficiency. The men’s centre is an integral component of mental health and wellbeing in the Fitzroy River Valley, and without their resilience the current environment of intergenerational trauma and its consequences would continue. Gurama Yani U Inc. is a place for men and boys, a place to ensure men & boys are recognised for their worth and importance to their families and community.
IPS Foundation through the vision and experience of one of its directors, Katina Law (Derby-raised and a Walmajarri and Worora woman), sought to offer assistance to an organisation in the West Kimberley region. Gurama Yani U Inc was identified to be in need of project driven consultant with a broad range of experience in both business and the ‘for purpose’ (commonly known and Not-For-Profit) space. To ensure the understanding of the project was maximised and beneficial to its outcomes, projects consultant Julie Broad embedded herself in the community of Fitzroy Crossing for nearly three months. This allowed Julie to meet and work with the Board of Directors to realise their vision by co-designing their strategic plan and operational plan. The lead of the operation also worked closely in the design process, ensuring an understanding of the implementation of each of the priorities in the plan. Gurama Yani U Inc has, possibly for the first time in its history, the organisational foundations to build a very successful space for men to engage, connect and be stronger for their families and themselves. |
